I’m Micaela, but all my friends call me Micas. I’m a Portuguese designer with a special love for crafts and children’s universe and the one behind Micastricas.

All of Micastricas designs and illustrations are made by hand and hand printed.

By exploring materials and techniques you will find here colorful and playful objects that trigger child's interaction.

I’m mostly inspired by my own childhood memories, but also by my surroundings, Portugal (from where I am), The Netherlands (where I live) or other cities to where I travel.

Micastricas is committed to respect the environment and work with sustainable materials and suppliers with an ethical and fair approach.

This project started in 2010 and is now based in The Netherlands, in my lovely studio in Rotterdam.

Enjoy and have fun in Micastricas world!

Silk screen printing may be the oldest and most practical printing technique dating back to ancient times.  There are hypotheses that silk printing’s origins started in China at least 12 centuries B.C. when silk began to be produced there. Silk printing may have originated not far from the Mediterranean Sea between Mesopotamia and Phoenicia according to available historical facts.  There are a number of archeological finds and historical studies that indicate that the Phoenicians found a way to reproduce patterns on fabrics using techniques uncommon to those used today .
